The Northern Areas are where most Pakistan tour packages are sold. Hunza, Skardu, Naran, Swat, Gilgit, and Chitral are the primary regions. The majority of packages combine two or three of these within a single itinerary.
Hunza Valley. Karimabad is at about 2,600 meters elevation in the Karakoram, with Rakaposhi at 7,788 meters across the valley. A Hunza package from Islamabad usually lasts between five and seven nights and includes visits to Baltit and Altit Forts, Attabad Lake, Passu, and Khunjerab Pass on the border with China. The drive takes between fourteen and eighteen hours, or a hour flight to Gilgit and a two-hour drive.
Skardu and Baltistan. Skardu at 2,228 meters is the base for many places to visit, including Kharpocho Fort, Shangrila Lake, Katpana Cold Desert, Deosai Plains at an average elevation of 4,114 meters, Shigar Fort, and Khaplu Palace. A five-night package covers most places. Seven nights provides a more thorough visit to Shigar and Khaplu. The one-hour flight from Islamabad is weather-dependent and can be cancelled, while the road trip takes fifteen to twenty hours across two days.
Naran Kaghan. Naran at 2,409 meters is the closest serious mountain destination from Islamabad at about 285 kilometers, a 5- to 6-hour drive. The highlights are Saif-ul-Malook Lake at 3,224 meters, Lulusar Lake at 3,410 meters, and Babusar Top at 4,173 meters. A three-night package is the minimum; a comfortable visit is five nights.
Swat Valley. Mingora at approximately 980 meters, Kalam at around 2,000 meters, Mahodand Lake at 2,865 meters and Malam Jabba ski resort at 2,804 meters. About 247 kilometers, a 4- to 5-hour drive from Islamabad. Three to five night visits can be extended with a Malam Jabba ski package as a separate winter visit.
Chitral and the Kalash Valleys. Direct access to the Hindu Kush mountain range is via the Lowari Tunnel, which maintains an open road year-round. Chitral town, the Valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir, and the road to Shandur Pass. About 5 to 7 nights from Islamabad.
Fairy Meadows and Nanga Parbat. Taking a jeep to Tato Village from the Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway, and then a walk to the meadow and the north face of Nanga Parbat at 8,126 meters. Two to three nights at the meadow, which is definitely one of the most memorable excursions the country has to offer. Usually goes as an add-on to a more Northern tour, instead of being sold separately.
Combined Northern Itineraries. The 10-night tour starting in Islamabad and ending in Naran, with a stopover at the Babusar crossing, the Hunza and Gilgit valleys are some of the most sought-after. In 12 nights, the Islamabad and Gilgit valleys tour includes two of the most visited valleys of Pakistan. These are most often booked as itineraries instead of self-drive tours due to the difficulty of passengers driving, jeep transfers, and accommodations in different regions.
Architectural sites spanning the Indus Valley Civilization, the Buddhist Gandhara Period, the Mughal and Sikh Empires, and the British era line Pakistan. Most of these sites can be visited in less than a day from Islamabad or Lahore.
Lahore and Mughal heritage. Lahore Fort, the Badshahi Mosque and Shalimar Gardens, the Old City, the Lahore Museum and the Anarkali Bazaar. You need a minimum of two to three nights to explore Lahore properly. Along with Multan to the south and Islamabad to the north and the mountainous region, Lahore makes for a fantastic heritage tour.
Taxila. Thirty kilometers northwest of Islamabad is one of the great Buddhist sites. A plethora of ruins, the Museum of Taxila, and the Dharmarajika Stupa make for a day trip from Islamabad, or a stop along the route to the north.
Multan. Multan is referred to as the City of Saints, and is peppered with over sixty Sufi shrines, including the shrines of Bahauddin Zakariya and Shah Rukn-e-Alam. Multan blue pottery is purchased from several workshops dotted through the city.
Mohenjo-daro. The appreciable ancient Indus Valley Civilization Site in Sindh. One of the most significant archaeological sites circa 2500 BCE. Lahore, Islamabad and Mohenjo-daro combined make for a fantastic ten to twelve day Pakistan heritage tour.
Rohtas Fort and Khewra Salt Mine. A couple of attractions along the Islamabad and Lahore route are a 16th-century Suri fortification - Rohtas Fort- and Khewra Salt Mine, the second-largest salt mine in the world. These are great stops on the road.
K2 Base Camp and Baltoro. The Askole to K2 Base Camp trek (5,100m), spanning both sides of the glacier, takes about six to seven days each way. Requires permits, a guide, a cook, and porters, as well as proper equipment. Can be arranged from Skardu. Best from June to early September.
Gondogoro Pass and the Hushe Valley. A challenging Trek connecting the Baltoro to the Hushe Valley on the other side of the range. Best for experienced trekkers.
Rakaposhi Base Camp. A two-day trek from Minapin in Nagar Valley, part of Hunza. The most accessible and highest altitude trek in the Karakoram.
Ultar Meadow, Deosai crossing, Patundas. Short treks in Hunza and Skardu suited for adventurers wanting a high-altitude trek without a demanding schedule.
The most popular northern honeymoon packages combine Hunza and Skardu in 10 to 12 nights. They include Attabad Lake in Hunza, a night at Shigar Fort or Khaplu Palace in Baltistan, Deosai if weather permits, and a sunset stay at a river view hotel in the valley.
The alternative is Swat Serena for one night and a two-night stay at the riverside hotel in Kalam. Recommended for couples on a time-constrained budget looking for an introduction to the northern regions.
The distinct characteristics of a destination wedding package include booking and managing venue/accommodation logistics and the day-to-day activities/ tasks coordination for all the guests. Destination wedding packages are available for Swat, Hunza, and Skardu, which have suitable small properties.
Swat and Naran provide an ideal location for families with children under 12 years, as both are at 2,500 meters or lower; therefore, children do not have to experience a difficult altitude adjustment as in both Hunza and Skardu. The main attractions in both valleys are accessible via jeeps, negating the need for difficult treks.
Families who wish to venture to the northernmost areas will find a better option with a 5-night Hunza package, where people sleep in Karimabad at around 2,600 meters and acclimatize before making any higher excursions.
Corporate retreats from Islamabad to Swat also require group vehicles and take 2-3 days maximum. Swat Serena is able to accommodate a small conference.
For larger groups or delegations, block accommodation is available at the better hotels in Hunza and Skardu, and there are plenty of activities to fulfill a structured/ full program. Since 2019, Pakistan has made it easier for travellers to enter the country, with most nationalities able to travel with an E-visa or on arrival. Since then, the number of travellers has been increasing year by year.

The most luxurious option of the tiers, premium, includes additional transport services of flights to save time, an accompanying guide, all meals and other tour expenses throughout, and a dedicated trip coordinator. What is considered the best Pakistan tour package for a first-time visitor? A 5 to 7 night northern package covering Hunza and the Karakoram Highway from Islamabad is the most complete first-time package. An alternative is the three- to four-day Naran Kaghan Package.
How do I book a Pakistan tour package? Send the destination, dates, group size and sightseeing requirements to one or two operators known to have a physical office and a DTS license. Choose the package whose inclusions are clearly listed, not the package with the most competitive price.
Are Pakistan tour packages safe for foreign visitors? The northern regions and the primary heritage sites are accessible for tourists. The same travel advice would apply for other sites. International travelers are advised to engage a licensed operator and a registered guide.
